Full description and record details

Reference
SC 8/346/E1391
Date
[c. 1324]
Description
Petitioners
John de Bures; Hawise de Bures, wife of John de Bures.
Name(s)
de Bures; de Bures, John; Hawise
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
The petitioners show that the king has seized their lands because Hawise married Bures without his licence. She had requested the king's licence and had already been married twice by the king as his ward and has had no dower, and the king has had all the advantages that he should have had, whereby it was ordained that they should have livery of the lands by mainprise to the next parliament to answer for the trespass. It is the time of the next parliament and they request livery of the lands and the mainprise.
Nature of endorsement
Coram magno consilio.
People mentioned
William de Mortymer (Mortimer)
John de Ferreres (Ferrers).
Note
The petition would appear to date to about 1324. Bures was certainly involved with the keeping of the lands of the Ferrers heir in that year, so it is likely that he already was married to Hawise, or would shortly be so (CFR 1319-27, p. 310).
