Date
[1322]
Description
Petitioners
Andrew de Harcla, earl of Carlisle.
Name(s)
de Harcla, earl of Carlisle, Andrew
Addressees
King.
Places mentioned
Tutbury, [Staffordshire].
Nature of request
Harcla requests that the king will have advisement and will ordain according to his will on the request that he lately made at Tutbury.
Nature of endorsement
[None].
Note
The petition dates to 1322 as Harcla is noted as being an earl in the petition, and he was granted the title on 25 March 1322 following his crucial intervention at the battle of Boroughbridge in support of Edward II. In addition, he refers to a previous request made at Tutbury, the former stronghold of Thomas of Lancaster, which would suggest that the petition was made still in 1322. Harcla was executed and forfeited in March 1323, so it is obviously no later than that date.
