Date

Description
Petitioners
John le Porter of Tickhill; John le Porter, son of John le Porter of Tickhill.
Name(s)
Porter; Porter, John; John
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
The Porters state that they were granted 30 acres of land in the vill of Tickhill by de la Bret, and de la Bret requested to the treasurer that they have a confirmation of the king, but he answered that they could not without a charter from Constance, lady of Tickhill. They have this and request that the king grant de la Bret's request and they will give as much as the land is extended at.
Nature of endorsement
This is answered by another petition in the custody of John de Bussh.[There are three other endorsements, one consisting of 'clxvij, clxxvij, Angl'', and struck through; another apparently being 'Coram consilio' but cut through when the parchment for the petition was cut up; and 'ciij'. These all appear to be unrelated to the petition, and may have been there before the petition was written].
Places mentioned
Tickhill, [West Riding of Yorkshire].
People mentioned
Amaneu de la Bret, lord of Tickhill
Constance [de Bearn], Lady of Tickhill.
Note
The petition is dated to 1307 as the inquisition ad quod damnum is dated to this and the petitioners were pardoned for their acquisition of the same land from Lady Constance on 20 March 1307 (CPR 1301-7, p. 507).
