SC 8/345/E1351
Date
[c. 1475]
Description
Petitioners
Roger Bonde (Bond).
Name(s)
Bonde (Bond), Roger
Addressees
Council of the prince.
Nature of request
It is stated that on the feast day of St Simon and St Jude in the 14th year of Edward IV, Hornebroke, Gerard and Donrygge came to the prince's mill within the manor of Calstock and broke it down and despoiled every piece asunder. From that day to the feast of the Purification of Our Lady then following the mill was down and ruinous so that Bonde, who was tenant of the same, was late in his work of making 20 pairs of 'brygandyres' [briganders: pieces of armour] which should have done the king's service at his last passage overseas, and to the great hurt and loss of Bonde and the prince's tenants without the prince's discrete wisdom and recompense, and the correction of the misdeeds.
Nature of endorsement
Roger Bonde against Robert Hornebroke.
Places mentioned
Calstock, [Cornwall].
People mentioned
[Edward Plantagenet], prince [of Wales]
Robert Hornebroke
Richard Gerard
John Donrygge.
Note
The petition is dated to c. 1475 because the petition refers to events on 28 October in the 14th year of the reign of Edward IV (1474), and to the feast of the Purification of Our Lady in the same regnal year (1475).
