Nature of request
Purs shows that Stephens on 2 December in [...] Edward IV, late king of England, granted to the petitioner, Forster and Holbeine, to the use of the petitioner a rent of 36s. 8d. a year to be received by her from tenements in Eresjund Lane in Middlesex with right of distraint should the sum be in arrears at any of the four terms. Stephens paid part of the first payment but has refused the rest, and has since offered to pay her only 26s. 8d. and she is of no power to distrain for the sum or sue at the common law, and Stephens and Forster and Holbeine are a fellowship, and she will be utterly ruined without the king's help. She requests that the king, by advice of his council, and that the petitioner is of no power, and Stephens is learned in the law, that the king send for Stephens and compel him to do as right requires.
