Salmier and Jocos state that hey brought goods in two ships, the masters being Bulscamp and Williamson, and that Poynings had their ships seized contrary to the letters patent granted to the merchants of the Hanse by Edward II, and confirmed by the king, which state that no goods of merchants of the Hanse can be seized for debts for which they were not pledge. People mentioned
[Humphrey of Lancaster], duke of Gloucester
Hayn Bulscamp
Lambr John Williamson
Robert Ponynges (Poynings), Lord Poynings, knight.
Note
The petition is dated to? c. 1440 on the basis of the guard reference. It is not entirely clear why this dating has been adopted by the author of the guard note, though it seems very likely that the date is not too distant from the true dating because the petition is addressed to the duke of Gloucester, but clearly not in his capacity as protector of the realm during Henry VI's minority. In addition the hand, and the fact that the petition is in English does suggest a later date. Lord Poynings did not die until 1446.
