Description
Petitioners
Harry Vernon, esquire, son and heir of William Vernon, knight.
Name(s)
Vernon, Harry
Addressees
Prince.
Nature of request
Vernon shows that his father was seised of the manors and lordships of Llanddowror, Llandeilo and Castel Toch, and after his death, the petitioner entered and was seised until he was wrongfully disseised by Harry Don of Picton, who, by great force and might kept his possession. After Don's death, the petitioner made continual claim and approached as close to the manors and lordships to have entered as he dared for fear of his life. By an inquisition held before the escheator, it was found that Don died seised and that William Don was his son and heir, by reason of which the manors and lordships are seized into the prince's hands, and yet reside there. Vernon can have no remedy except by petition to the prince, and requests that by the advice of his council he will examine the petitioner's title, and on his proof of title being showed, to restore him to the possession.

Note
The petition is dated to 1471-1483 on the basis that a cover note preceding this file of petitions indicates that the petitions SC 8/344/E1262-E1316B mostly date to the period 1481-1483, and nearly all appear to belong to the period 1471-1483, this latter date being the dates that Edward Plantagenet, Edward IV's eldest son, held the principality of Wales and the county of Chester. Throughout this file, the latter date range has been adopted where no evidence survives to indicate more specific dates.
