SC 8/344/E1303
Date
[1471-1483]
Description
Petitioners
Humphrey Starky.
Name(s)
Starky, Humphrey
Addressees
Council of the prince.
Nature of request
[The petition is damaged with a portion of the right-hand side of the petition being missing, and some of the remainder being faded and illegible].Starky states that his father was seised of 'wychhowse' (wichhouse) [in Northwich], and after his death it descended to Laurence, his son and heir and he was seised for thirty years until an action of trespass was made against George [presumably tenant of Starkys] and he was outlawed, and Laurence [died]. Diverse people by the commandment of the petitioner entered the same house to the petitioner's use, [but he was ousted by George] and he keeps it contrary to all reason and conscience. Starky requests that the premises be considered [...] at a certain day and place to be limited, to be examined upon the premises, and the petitioner [...] the same George to be punished for his wrongful occupation of the house, and over that to do and receive what the council considers for the prince.
Nature of endorsement
[None].
Places mentioned
[Northwich, [Cheshire]].
People mentioned
[Edward Plantagenet], prince [of Wales]
Richard Starky, father of the petitioner
Laurence Starky, son and heir of Richard Starky
George [...].
Note
The petition is dated to 1471-1483 on the basis that a cover note preceding this file of petitions indicates that the petitions SC 8/344/E1262-E1316B mostly date to the period 1481-1483, and nearly all appear to belong to the period 1471-1483, this latter date being the dates that Edward Plantagenet, Edward IV's eldest son, held the principality of Wales and the county of Chester. Throughout this file, the latter date range has been adopted where no evidence survives to indicate more specific dates.
