Nature of request
Shete complains that Sir John Pallet (now dead) and Constance his wife granted her 5 marks of annual rent issuing from the manor of Basing, and she was seised of the same until John Pallet, the son and heir withdrew it, notwithstanding his confirmation. She states that she is near to one hundred years old, impotent and of such poverty that she cannot sue her remedy by course of the common law against Pallet. She requests that the prince send his commandment to Pallet to appear before his council at a certain day to answer the premises.

8 November in the 21st year.A letter to the party to content the debt claimed or agree the party so as she have no cause any more to complain or else she or some other plea [...] instant or answered be before the lord prince's council in his council-house at Westminster the 19 November next.

The petition is dated to 1481 because the petition is dated to 8 November, 21 [Edw. IV] on its dorse, and the address to 'Prince Edward, the furst begotten son of the king, now soverain lord', clearly refers to Edward IV's oldest son.
