Nature of request
Shyre and Elys show that they have been seised of a tinwork called 'Devlecombe' lying in the moor in the jurisdiction of the court of Ashburton without claim or interruption for a long time until around the feast of St Laurence the Martyr in the 20th year when Creston came and seized 4 'hulles' of clack tin to the use of Richard Eggecombe, his master, which John Elys' grandfather recovered through the court of Ashburton. Afterwards Creston came with Corsett, the Wavells and the servants of Sir Thomas Fulford and took 16 'hulles' of tin, and the supplicants brought an action in the court of Ashburton, but have not been able to have due process because Robert Wavell is the bailiff there. The petitioners cannot have remedy without the prince's good grace, and request redress by the advice of the prince's council.
