Martyn states that he is vexed daily by Ferrowe who for the last four years and more has wrongfully impleaded him in the shire [court] at Exeter by 20 diverse plaints of trespass, and when the petitioner appeared and pleade to the said plaints, Ferrowe would be non-suited and has been heavily amerced, yet sues by several means. Also, when Martyn was in God's and the King's peace, Ferrowe, Clerk and others came to place at Smeardon on 24 April last in arrayed manner of war and carried away seven oxen valued at 7 marks and took them to Tetcott and sold them. They subsequently said to the petitioner that they would give him the money if he would acquit them of all manner of actions. Martyn requests remedy as he is not of the power to sue at the common law and is a poor man living by the labour of his hands and has 12 children, a blind woman, and a bedridden mother.
