Date
[c. 1280-c. 1295]
Description
Petitioners
? No Petitioner named
Nature of request
[The document is very badly damaged with only a few words remaining from each line on the left-hand side. It clearly relates to Bardney Abbey, as Peter de Barton was abbot there between 1267-1280].
Nature of endorsement
[Response rendered illegible because of repair].
Places mentioned
[Bardney, [Lincolnshire]].
People mentioned
King [of England]
Peter de Barton, late abbot of [Bardney]
Prior and sub-prior [of Bardney].
Note
The document is dated to c. 1280-c. 1295 on the basis of the reference to Peter de Barton as late the abbot [of Bardney]. He was abbot from 1267-1280, and it seems likely that the petition was shortly after 1280, but the wider date range is given because of the uncertainty over the date (Heads of Religious Houses, II, p. 20).
