Nature of request
[Petition in two parts. The petition is badly damaged with a substantial portion being missing from the left-hand of the petition, and other portions being missing throughout the petition].1) The dean and chapter make a request concerning the temporalities of the archbishopric of Dublin during times of vacancy, as they are destroyed during these times. They request that they be granted [? the temporalities ] during time of the vacancy, paying as much as the escheator will.2) Request that they are granted [? that they may buy] £100 of land or rent to maintain 13 chaplains in the church of St Patrick [...].
Nature of endorsement
Coram rege.Let the treasurer [and barons of the Exchequer of Dublin be ordered [...].
Places mentioned
Dublin, [Ireland].
People mentioned
Queen of England, mother of the king.
Note
The petition is dated to c. 1294-c. 1300 as the petition is very much concerned with vacancies in the archbishopric of Dublin, as there was a lengthy period of vacancy and problematic elections during this period, with only one consecrated archbishop during that time - William Hotham - and he being consecrated in November 1297, and dying in August 1298. In addition, the petition refers to the queen, the king's mother, and this sort of reference seems likely to refer to Eleanor of Provence, Edward I's mother, rather than Eleanor of Castile, Edward II's mother.
