[The petition is badly damages and is missing considerable parts of its lower portions].Derfold, for himself and Bate states that he gave a plaint to the mayor and constables of the staple of Boston upon Nicholas Johan for a debt of £600 that he was bound to them in for his masters and companions jointly and severally to pay to them at a certain day now passed. The mayor, constables and company of the staple have, according to the usages, liberties and customs of the staple by virtue of which complaint have eight and nine sarplers of wool of Nicholas Johan as the petitioner and Bate are prepared to aver by all the loyal merchants of their pays were taken in Boston [...] to answer to the petitioner and Bate. And Francis Johan came into the court and claimed the wool as his, but by way of examination it was found to be Nicholas Johan's.[The remainder is incomplete but refers to the adjournment of the case, and the goods apparently being restored to Nicholas Johan].
