Nature of request
[Letter of Richard de Clare addressed with much affection presumably to a more senior member of his order, and making the following requests:]1) Clare requests that his addressee will request to the earl of Cornwall that neither he nor his bailiffs of Chichester will permit the friars' place, goods and people be disturbed or molested.2) Clare requests letters patent of protection of the king for a year at least if it is possible of the people, place and things of Chichester.3) He requests that the king will write to the mayor and Taverner that they desist from all vexations and disturbances of the friars residing in the town, since others have written to them upon this cordially and they have done nothing on this but have done worse.
