Description
Petitioners
? No Petitioner named
Nature of request
[The petition is badly damaged with the entire left-hand side of the petition being missing, and with parts of the remainder being illegible. The petition refers to a debt that was not able to be paid, a reference to something committed against the statute of labourers by someone that the petitioner thought was his servant, to legal action, and to the imprisonment of Hornby, and the request refers to someone, possibly the petitioner, not having sufficient goods].
Nature of endorsement
[None].
Places mentioned
York.
People mentioned
William de Runketon, late merchant of York
William de Hornby.
Note
The petition is dated to c. 1393 on the basis of a possibly related reference to William de Hornby in which the king orders his arrest and that he be brought before him (CPR 1391-6, p. 360). The hand would clearly fit a petition of this date.
