The petition is speculatively dated to c. 1300-c. 1307 on the basis of the reference to the petitioner's involvement in the wars of Wales and Scotland. If the reference to Caerlaverock was to the siege and capture of the castle by the English in 1300 then the petition is perhaps earlier in the range.
