[c. 1317-c. 1330]
Description
Petitioners
People of East Leake; Simon de Makesey.
Name(s)
de Makesey, Simon
Addressees
[Lost if there is a formal address].
Nature of request
The people of East Leake request remedy for the goods taken from them by Eilgh[...] at the time when the king held his parliament at Nottingham.[The petition then lists the goods taken from various individuals and their value. The petition concludes with a note that Simon de Makesey sued the petition].
Nature of endorsement
He should sue at the common law.
Places mentioned
Esterleyk [East Leake, Nottinghamshire], [Nottinghamshire]
Nottingham, [Nottinghamshire]
Calke [Abbey], [Derbyshire].
People mentioned
Oliver de Eilgh[...]
William Umfrai (Humphrey)
Cellarer of Calke [Abbey].
Note
The petition is dated to c. 1317-c. 1330 because the petition refers to the goods being taken from them at the time the king held his parliament at Nottingham, and parliaments were held there in July 1317 and October 1330. It seems likely from the hand that the former is the more likely of the two parliaments, especially as the 1330 parliament does not seem to have been a full parliament with elected representatives.
