Note (Additional information about the record)
- The petition is dated to 1343 because the privy seal warrant with which it was probably originally enclosed is dated in its dating clause to the 6 September, 17 Edw. III (4 as king of France) (C 81/292/15626). A Walter de Meriet began an attempt to found a Carmelite friary in Taunton around this time, and this petition may possibly be related to this (VCH Somerset, II, p.152).
