Description
Petitioners
John Boteler; Elizabeth Boteler, wife of John Boteler; Thomas Hampden; Marjorie Hampden, wife of Thomas Hampden; Humphrey Forster; Alice Forster, wife of Humphrey Forster; John Wadham.
Name(s)
Boteler; Boteler; Hampden; Hampden; Forster; Forster; Wadham, John; Elizabeth; Thomas; Marjorie; Humphrey; Alice; John
Addressees
King [...].
Nature of request
[The petition is badly damaged and in large parts illegible. Although too much is now lost to make full sense of the lengthy petition, it begins with two lines in Middle English requesting that they be granted a document and that it be sealed in the form of the Latin draft which then follows the request. The remainder of the document consists of this Latin draft. The petitioners were the heirs of John Popham, the wives being kinswomen of Popham, and Wadham being the son of another kinswoman, and sister of Elizabeth, Marjorie, and Alice.]
Nature of endorsement
[None, though there is a modern note of the identity of the petitioners, and a genealogy tracing the relationship of the petitioners.]
People mentioned
John Popham, knight.
Note
The petition is dated to? 1476 on the basis of the dating of a licence granted to the petitioners on 3 December 1476 which may be what was being requested in the petition (CPR 1476-85, pp. 21-22).
