[This petition is fragmentary and badly faded] . . . Agnes la Clerke of Ogbourne and complains of William Rameshull, John le Blakeheded, William Fisscher, John Mildehale . . . Hurde and John son of Robert le Hurde of Marlborough, that that same William and the others wrongly came into the . . . our lord, in the thirteenth [or third] year of the reign of our lord the present king, and there by night a cart with four [horses] . . . of the aforesaid Agnes by false claim of debt attached, when the same Agnes was going towards . . . of the fifteenth penny and to make other contributions to our lord the king, and they beat that same Agnes . . . marks. Otherwise, when that same Agnes was impleaded in the vill of Marlborough by the claim of debt . . . aforesaid, she was assigned to make her law on a certain day decided by the court, against the said William, there came . . . harassed her wrongly and with force, so that she could not make her law. After such grievances she purchased . . . to have execution of the writ she had brought. For which grievances the said Agnes requests a remedy and aid of . . . soul of your lord and father whom God absolve.
