Description

Addressees
King.
Nature of request
The petitioners make a number of complaints, apparently against Reginald de Grey, Justice of Chester:1) . . . [Reginald] de Grey, Justice of Chester and first . . . time of King Henry of good memory.2) Largely illegible, seems to concern an oath and a payment.3) . . . some justice for two noble men of Rhos who were killed.4) They are forbidden to use their woods for their own needs.5) He has placed twenty-four sergeants of the peace (satellites) over them, although there were only twelve in the time of King Henry; they ask the king to give them what they had from the Princes of Wales.6) If their country is to be given at farm, they think that it should rather be given to them at the same farm than to others, for their fidelity.7) Their inheritance, which was adjudged to them by twenty-four men in the time of G. de Badlesmere, is forbidden to them, and they request a due response in writing, by Bleddyn their messenger.
