Prior of St Saviour Holland Bridge (Bridge End)
Nature of request
The Prior of St Saviour, of the order of Sempringham, delivered a petition to the last parliament at York, and asked the king and council for some aid to repair the causeway of Holland, as no-one can pass on foot or on horseback without great harm. This petition was answered that the council could not grant it without the special command of the king, who was then out of town; and he was told to sue to the king. Therefore he asks the king, of his grace, for the soul of his father and the salvation of his people and of the priory, of which he is the patron, that he might charge merchants passing that way with the customs written on the back of this petition, to repair the causeway, to last at his pleasure.

Note
CCR 1333-7 pp.11-12 is dated 10 February 1333, and mentions a petition to the last parliament at York (December 1332). This petition seems to be rather later: it may have been enclosed with no. 8078 of C 81/216, dated 20 September 1334, especially since this states that the petitioner has been granted pontage for three years 'according to the endorsement of the bill, which we send to you enclosed with this'. There was another parliament at York in February 1334, which may be the one alluded to here.
