[This petition is fragmentary] . . . to our lord the king by the clergy of England of the province of Canterbury . . . John Bluwyk and Clement Depdale, subcollectors for the vill of . . . the aforesaid fifteenths at 6 marks for the same . . . in the said county and their subcollectors in the said vill of Emneth . . . the aforesaid fifteenths. The which petitioner by Geoffrey Bunt, his bailiff . . . subcollectors, together with Thomas Merton, Richard Albald . . . Lent in the fifth year of the reign of our aforesaid lord the present king . . . church and Marion his wife, John Bunt, William Bunt, Nicholas . . . of the said petitioner did not dare to occupy themselves for fear of their death . . . quarters of oats and a quarter of . . . to the value of 100s. from the goods . . . payment of the said 6 marks for the aforesaid fifteenths to our lord [the king] . . . aforesaid. The petition mentions Lent in the king's fifth year: from the hand, this could be 5 Henry IV (1404), 5 Henry V (1418) or 5 Henry VI (1427). From the mention of fifteenths, the tax is likely to be the two fifteenths and tenths granted in December 1417, for which records survive from February 1419.
