[This petition is fragmentary] [John Bays of Preby in the county] of Somerset, and William Milward the younger state that on 3 [February 1418 the king granted a lead mine in the forest of Mendip, Somerset, to hold for a year] at farm to the said petitioners by letters patent under the great seal . . . . contained. Concerning this mine the said petitioners are . . . to the great ruin of the said petitioners . . . a writ under the king's great seal addressed . . . on pain of a heavy penalty [to be decided] by you in this [matter] . . . of the letters patent . . .

CPR 1416-22 p.133 is dated 3 February 1418, a date which can just be made out in the petition. This petition would therefore seem to date from after this date, and most probably from the next year.
