Nature of request
[This petition is damaged] Renier Evelone and Godfrey Kirkehere, merhcnats of Brabant, state that they had bought twelve sacks of wool in Nottinghamshire, and left it in the house of William Durant of Newark; but that Stephen le Heir, who was charged with taking into the king's hand the goods of religious and other aliens of the alliance of the king of France in Nottinghamshire, seized these wools, and was later told by the Treasurer and Barons of the Exchequer to keep them for their king's use, on the assumption that the merchants were of the alliance of the king of France. They state that they are not, and ask that they might have delivery of their wool, and that Robert might be discharged.
Nature of endorsement
The Treasurer and Barons of the Exchequer are to be ordered by writ of the great seal that the intention of the king and his council was not, and is not, that the goods and chattels of the merchants of Brabant, who are of the king's friendship, should be taken into the king's hand as forfeit, by reason of the said commission.
