Description
Petitioners
Richard de Bourne, parson of the church of Shalfleet.
Name(s)
de Bourne, Richard
Addressees
King and council.
Occupation
parson of the church of Shalfleet
Nature of request
[This petition is damaged and badly faded, and is largely illegible.] Richard de Bourne, parson of the church of Shalfleet, states that in the eighteenth year of the king's father, a plea of trespass held before John del Idle de Wight and Henry de Wolverton went against him through collusion, leading to his outlawry. He has sued to have the errors in the record and process corrected, but cannot be received to aver against the record because of a default in the law. He asks that this default might be corrected, so that he might come into court to show the errors in the process.
Nature of endorsement
This petition is to be sent before the justices assigned to hold the pleas of the king, and they are to be ordered that, when they have seen the petition . . . [calling to themselves] the parties and others who are to be called . . . they are to do justice in this matter.[Another brief endorsement is illegible]
Places mentioned

Southampton, [Hampshire]
Sussex.
People mentioned
John del Idle de Wight (Isle of Wight), keeper of the peace in Hampshire
Henry de Wolverton
John de Holte
[Edward II], King of England.
Note
This petition is tentatively dated on the guard to c. 1328. From the hand and the mention of the eighteenth year of the king's father (8 July 1324-7 July 1325), a date in the early years of the reign of Edward III would seem likely. CPR 1327-30 p.283 is dated 20 February 1328.
