Date
[1327-1335]
Description
Petitioners
Ellis de Jonestone.
Name(s)
de Jonestone, Ellis
Addressees
[Missing]
Nature of request
[This petition is fragmentary and has been treated with gall, so that it is almost illegible.] Ellis de Jonestone makes two requests:1) This petition is largely illegible, but concerns a loan made on his wages, and an account in the wardrobe of the king's father and grandfather.2) This petition also seems to concern wages, but also that he can no longer bear the charges of service at the court of the King [of France] according to the ordinance made for them.
Nature of endorsement
[None]
Places mentioned
Bordeaux, [Guyenne, France].
People mentioned
[Edward II], King of England
[Edward I], King of England.
Note
Tentatively dated on the basis of the hand, and the reference to the king's father and grandfather. Jonestone was active as keeper of the processes in the court of France for many years, and a number of petitions survive from him from the early years of Edward III's reign, requesting to be replaced, and he was replaced in 1335.
