[This petition is badly faded and mostly illegible]To our lord the king and to his council . . . to pay the debts that the king owed in London . . . John de Londres . . . Edward the king's son . . . and the aforesaid Gregory . . . the poor people . . . rotten wine . . . the money that they demanded . . . the present king . . . because they have understood . . . that debt . . . Gregory . . . the poor people surrendered to Gregory . . . the sum of money of 30 marks and 6s. and 8d. . . . rotten wine, the which three tuns of wine sold . . . double what the things were worth . . . the poor people are . . . the aforesaid Gregory . . . the aforesaid Gregory has surrendered . . . the whole of the aforesaid debt. Because of which the poor people pray to our lord the king and his council that this thing might be inquired into by some loyal man and who . . . is not . . . and that the poor people might be paid their debt . . . Gregory has allowance for all their debts and has paid nothing to the poor . . . Gregory . . . the poor people . . .
Nature of endorsement
Coram rege concerning the poor people of London.To be called tomorrow namely the Thursday on the morrow of the conversion of St Paul.Ralph de Sandewyco and Robert de Schardeburg are to be assigned to hear the complaint between the men of London, complainants, and Gregory de Rakele and John de Londres, and to hear their petitions concerning the debts of the present king. And they are to be enrolled and shown to the lord king in the next parliament.This is the complaint . . . people of London.Concerning ministers before the crossing, at the complaint of the community of London.This petition to the lord Bishop of Bath.
