[This petition is fragmentary] To our lord the king and to his council, Gilbert de Bab[ington] prays . . . Earl of Angus, whereas the said Gilbert had a bill of . . . King Edward, father of our [present] lord the king . . . which has been in the county of Northumberland, may it please you that . . . de Northbourgh, Bishop of Chester, then Keeper of the said [Wardrobe] . . .

He is to sue to the said bishop if he wishes.
Places mentioned
Northumberland.
People mentioned
[Robert de Umfraville], Earl of Angus
Edward [I], King of England
[Roger] de Northbourgh [Northburgh], Bishop of Chester (Bishop of Coventry and Lichfield).
Note
Roger Northburgh was Bishop of Coventry and Lichfield from 1322 to 1358, and Keeper of the Wardrobe from 1316 to 1322. As the petitioner was the executor of the Earl of Angus, this petition would seem to concern a debt owed to him in the wardrobe from Northburgh's time - as it mentions this as being in the time of the king's father, it would seem to date from the early years of Edward III.CCR 1318-23 p.375 is dated 20 May 1321. Gilbert de Babington is also mentioned in CPR 1321-4 p.241, in a document dated 12 February 1323.
