[This petition is fragmentary] The Abbot of Peterborough states that John [de Camoys held] the manors of Torpel and Upton with [appurtenances from him and his predecessors by homage and service and suit of the Abbot's court] every three weeks and by the services of four [knights' fees, paying £4 annually; and that the Abbot and his predecessors] were seised [of these services] as of the right of their church, [by the hands of John and his ancestors] from time immemorial until the said [manors came into the hands of Queen Eleanor by the] enfeoffment of the aforesaid John de Camoys, [and the Abbot and his predecessors] have always defended the manors [as part of their barony] against the king. He asks the king that, as the manors [are now in the hands of others, of the king's gift, the services due to him might be done by the hands of those who now hold these manors, and that the king should] command that the arrears of the aforesaid services [from the time of the enfeoffment, might be given to him].
Nature of endorsement
The Treasurer and Barons of the Exchequer are to be ordered by writ that, when they have searched the books and memoranda of the same Exchequer, they are to inquire into the contents of the petition in the presence of the ministers of Isabella, Queen of England, to be informed if they wish to be present; and they are to inform the king of what they find, that the king might have done on this what rightly etc.
