[This petition is fragmentary] To our most excellent and most dread lord, our lord the king, and to the honourable lords of this present parliament . . . road lead him close to the lodging of Ralph Hastings, and because of the good friendship which he had found with . . . Richard Grey, brother of the said lady in the park of Pickering, which belongs to my lord of Lancaster . . . at which he wondered, and went to the lady, asking her to tell him . . . said that he had not deserved so good a name and afterwards the said Richard said that he would know . . . Ralph after he came into his/her presence to know of his/her good estate . . . of his enemies, as he found afterwards. And the said Ralph commanded him . . . following, and the said Richard followed afterwards with a great company of people . . . the said Robert was travelling along the high road, the said . . . on the highway, the said . . . unknown to the said Robert, who attacked him with force and arms . . . the said Robert if he was not only a servant of the said R . . . Pickering and wished to have done . . .

Note
This petition must date from before the accession of Henry IV, as it refers to 'my lord of Lancaster'. Ralph de Hastings was adjudged to death for treason on 20 July 6 Henry IV (1405) and Richard de Hastings was restored as his heir on 8 May 1410 (CPR 1408-13 pp.195-196).
