Nature of request
The tenants of Tunstead, in the honour of the castle of High Peak, the king's ancient demesne, state that the castle of High Peak is now in the queen's hand, and that one Ralph Despaigne, her approver of the castle, is distraining them for the rents of a Thomas Fitz Robert and a John Fitz William, who have never existed, and whose names have been entered in the rent-roll by a mistake of the clerk: as they are prepared to aver. They ask that they might not be charged for more than the quantity of land that they hold, and that they might hold their lands by the customary rents and services, without any wrongful charge.
