Description
Petitioners
John Pechche (Pecche).
Name(s)
Pechche (Pecche), John
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
[This petition is damaged, and most of the bottom part is missing] John Pechche states that the lands and tenements that belonged to Richard de Arderne in Warwickshire and elsewhere came into the hand of the king's grandfather, because Richard was an idiot; and he then granted the wardship of them to Queen Eleanor. Richard died without an heir of his body, so Queen Eleanor held them throughout her life. After her death it was found that they were being wrongly withheld, and orders were given to deliver to John, kinsman and one of the heirs of Richard de Arderne, the manors of Hampton in Arden, Longdon, and certain lands in Wixford. He was seised for a long time, but at the suggestion of William de Dodingsheles, who coveted that land, a commission was granted to the same William . . . . which [sat] in John's absence, and he was wrongly expelled from the manor of Longdon . . . The lands were later seized into the hand of the king's grandfather, and given to the Abbot of Westminster . . .
Nature of endorsement
The record is to come . . . and if it is found that all things are . . . except for rendering judgment . . . the king will be advised to give satisfaction to John . . . will surrender, and the king will give satisfaction to the abbot.[Coram] rege.
