Barre, William

Nature of request
William, son and heir of Katherine de la Barre of Henley, states that John de Merworgh has disseised him of a carucate of land in Harpsden, Bolney and Rotherfield, and has held it, wrongly, for three years and more: as he bought this land from a Richard de Walsam, who wrongly disseised Katherine of it. She was never able to recover this land, because of the maintenance and bribery of John de Merworgh, and she and her six children were destitute. She died during her plea, and William has purchased a writ of entry, but can still have no justice. He requests the king's aid, that the matter might be determined by a good jury.
