Nature of request
The merchants of Bazas who bring their merchandise to London state that the peace was cried and publicly proclaimed in Bordeaux, between the king and the king of France, and that all manner of people and merchants could safely travel to England and elsewhere with their goods and merchandise. As a result the petitioners came to London under the king's safeguard and protection, but now the mayor and sheriffs of London, by virtue of a command from Chancery, have seized their goods and merchandise and forbidden payment of debts due to them. They ask that their goods and merchandise might be released, and the king's proclamation maintained and upheld. Nature of endorsement
The town of Bazas was of the enmity of our lord the king, and has been conquered by force of war. For this reason the king considers the goods and chattels of the people of the said town as forfeit to him.

Tentatively dated on the basis of the hand. It could perhaps be as late as 1353 (see m.6 and m.2 of C 61/65 for evidence that Bazas has recently come into the king's obedience), but the hand would seem to suggest that this is unlikely.
