Nature of request
Congreve, who for over 24 years was seised of a manor and lands in Rickmansworth in right of his wife by her joint estate with her late husband, requests remedy against Lynster, Shappe, Winchester, Watter and Clerk who, with other unknowns, arrayed for war, entered the manor and lands, beat him, his wife, children and household and destroyed all his household goods. The chancellor, hearing of this, sent Kirkby to capture the men, but they hid in the woods until he was gone and then broke the gates and entered the lands again, He asks that writs of proclamation be directed to the sheriff ordering the said men to come before the council or chancellor to answer for their actions against him, and that he and his wife be restored to their possession of the manor and lands.
