Nature of request
The prior of Christ Church, Canterbury, who has been seised of a quay and wharf in the port of Sandwich from time out of mind, requests remedy against the mayor, jurats and community of Sandwich who, at the ringing of the town's common bell at midnight on 3 May last, gathered arrayed for war and broke into his pale and broke his wharf and have continued to menace the petitioner and his monks and servants so that they dare not approach their lands in Sandwich or in the adjoining towns. He asks that the mayor, jurats and community be made to come before the council to be examined in this matter.
Nature of endorsement
On 17 May in the 10th year it was granted by the council that a writ be directed to the constable of Dover castle and the warden of the Cinque Ports to cause the mayor, bailiffs and twelve jurats of Sandwich to come before them at Westminster on the Monday after the Ascension next to answer the King on behalf of the petitioner, so that satisfaction can be made.
