Name(s)
Rouley; Wyeston, John; Nicholas
Addressees
Council.
Nature of request
Rouley, Wyeston and the community of Retford request remedy and the punishment of Kynder, John Puncherdon, Wright, Chambers, Miller, Webster, Stokhalgh and other unknowns who, arrayed for war, have often beaten, wounded and maimed the people of Retford and of other places in Nottinghamshire. They live in the woods as outlaws, attacking anyone who passes, and have so threatened the people of Retford that they must set someone to keep watch every night.
Nature of endorsement
On 6 July in the 10th year, it was agreed that a writ be made to the justice of the peace in Nottinghamshire to arrest the named malefactors and their named supporters and force them to make sufficient surety to the petitioners under sufficient pain, to which the King answered that he wished the surety to be returned in Chancery. And the council directed a similar writ to the sheriff of Nottinghamshire.
