Nature of request
Margaret, widow of Robert de Sandford, who has been seised of certain lands in Sandford and Ormside since her husband's death 1½ years ago, requests remedy against William Sandford who entered her lands in Sandford with force and arms and ousted her. She complained to the earl of Northumberland as keeper of the march who ordered the sheriff of Westmorland not to allow such entries, but nevertheless William de Sandford, with others named, arrayed for war, entered the same lands and drove away her tenants' livestock. She asks that writs be directed to Sandford and the others to come before the council to answer in this matter.

Since the petitioner's husband was still active at the end of 1398 (CPR 1396-9, p. 507), the petition dates to between 1400 and 1405, when Percy's estates were confiscated.
