Description
Petitioners
John Stepulton (Stapleton) the elder of Shropshire.
Name(s)
Stepulton (Stapleton), John
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
John Stepulton the elder of Shropshire states that he was rightfully seised in his demesne as in fee of the manor of Stapleton, until John Stepulton the younger, John Wynnesbury, John Pykard and others entered the manor with force and seized and occupied it, stealing the petitioner's goods. John has sued against these people for these wrongs, and has had writs to the justices of the peace and to other officers in Shropshire to do justice, and has spent all his wealth in this suit, but he has not been able to have justice at common law, because of the great maintenance of the malefactors. He asks the king to have consideration for his great wrongs and great poverty, and his age and weakness, which prevent him from working, and to order the Chancellor to summon the malefactors before him to answer to the petitioner and to explain their actions; and he asks that he might be restored to his manor.
