Nature of request
The Abbot and convent of Reading state that John Purye, with a great assembly of riotous people, has disseised them of a number of lands and tenements in Berkshire, which were part of their first foundation. They continue to occupy these lands, and have destroyed the buildings on them, carrying them away to John's own lands, and have felled and wasted the Abbot's timber, woods, groves, hedgerows and coppices; they are also building roads on the land. They request a writ to the Chancellor to hold a special assize, according to the tenor of a bill attached to this petition.
