Nature of request
The petitioners state that the chapel of St Mary Magdalen newly built on the site of the battle of Shrewsbury is not provided with any possessions by which divine service may be maintained there or the chaplains supported, except for the casual alms of good Christians, and remind the king that he promised that a church would be appropriated to them to support these things. They ask that they might have the church of St Michael's Kirk [St Michael's on Wyre], in the diocese of York, of which the king is patron, as part of his Duchy of Lancaster, to be appropriated to their chapel forever at the first vacancy in that church, or that the king might otherwise show them on what they should live; as if they are not soon given some support, they will be forced to abandon the chapel.
Nature of endorsement
