Council.
Nature of request
The petition states that William de Gippewych, formerly Baron of the Dublin Exchequer, was Treasurer and Receiver of Ulster, and at the same time clerk of the cocket, and that he retained the monies he recived for these offices without rendering account for them, and made blank acquittances sealed with the seal of the said cocket, in deceit and disinheritance of the king and his crown. He was solemnly [indicted] of this before John Morys, lieutenant of John Darcy in Ireland, and then before the same John Morys . . . allowed to go free without any punishment, by reason of his office in the Exchequer. The petition requests a writ to attach him to render account for the monies he has received and withheld, and to seize his body to answer to the king for his deceit; and that he might no longer keep his office.
Nature of endorsement
A writ is to be sent to the Treasurer and Barons of the Dublin Exchequer, to have the said William come to the said Exchequer to render his account for the monies and issues mentioned by this petition. And with regard to the blank acquittances, a writ is to be sent to the Justiciar of Ireland, or to his lieutenant, to examine the indictment mentioned by this petition, and the process made on this, and further to do what is to be done, according to the laws and usages of those parts.
