Date
[1293-1307]
Description
Petitioners
Isabel de Beaumond (Beaumont), widow of John de Vescy.
Name(s)
de Beaumond (Beaumont), Isabel
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Isabel de Beaumond, widow of John de Vescy, states that the king has given and granted to her by his charter all the lands and tenements that belonged to Nicholas de Graham in the county of Northumberland, on the day he was forfeited; and that she cannot have half the vill of Heatherslaw from the king's bailiffs because it is not specified in the charter. She asks that she might have it as she has the other lands, according to the king's will. There follows a copy of the original charter.
Nature of endorsement
Coram rege.It is to be done for her, and the charter is to be emended.
Places mentioned
Herdeslaze (Heatherslaw), [Northumberland]
Wollorie' (Wooler), [Northumberland]
Hethpool, [Northumberland]
Belford, [Northumberland]
Yesington (Easington), [Northumberland]
Lowick, Northumberland
Bellesdon (Bowsden), Northumberland.
People mentioned
John de Vescy
Nicholas de Graham
Eleanor [of Castile], Queen of England.
Note
As the original grant was made by the present king, and that charter mentions that it was for Isabel's services to 'Eleanor, late Queen of England, our consort', this petition would seem to date from between Eleanor of Castile's death in 1290, and Edward I's death in 1307 - and probably from closer to the later date than the earlier. Graham died in April 1306, but had suffered forfeiture at some point after 1293 as an adherent of the Scottish rebels.
