Nature of request
John Samport, king's messenger, states that when he was lately ordered by the king's council to go on the king's business with certain commissions and privy seals, he was given a new horse at Wolverhampton by the constable of the town, to replace his that could not serve him any longer; and that when he was six leagues from the town, Roger Benet and others assaulted him without reason, although he showed them the king's letters, so that he could not perform his commission, but had to go two or three leagues to find another horse. He requests a remedy, as otherwise he and his companions will not be able to perform their office.
Nature of endorsement
On 19 May in the tenth year it was granted by the council that a writ should be issued to the Roger Benet mentioned here to appear before the council at the octaves of Trinity next, to answer to the things that will be put to him there, on pain of £40.And a writ is to be issued to the Sheriff of Staffordshire to execute the king's writ, on the same pain.
