Description

Name(s)
de Vyenne (Vienne), John
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
John de Vyenne states that he was appointed as controller of wools in the port of London by the king's father, to receive as much as his predecessors received, as can be seen from the copy of the commission attached to this petition; and that Albred de Fiscamp and Richard de Lue, his immediate predecessors, were allowed the issues of the coket seal in aid of their fee. He also received these issues until the Bishop of Exeter, when he was Treasurer, charged him £40 for the same; and he has since paid this sum voluntarily. He requests a writ to the Treasurer and Barons of the Exchequer that if they can find that an allowance for these issues was ever given to Albred and Richard, that he might have such an allowance, [and that he might be acquitted of] the remainder of the £40 that is not yet paid to the king.
Nature of endorsement
The fee was £10 and £10 are . . . of the £40.The treasurer and barons of the Exchequer are to be ordered to hear the explanation of John de Vienne and to make allowance to him, according to what they see to be in accordance with justice and reason.
