Description
Petitioners
Thomas de Brandon.
Name(s)
de Brandon, Thomas
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Thomas de Brandon states that he lent £156 6s. 2d. to the king's grandfather, and had long sued to the king's grandfather and his council for this sum, and was granted payment from the custom of London; but the king's grandfather died before he could have a warrant for this. He has continued to sue to the present king and his council for payment, and lately, before the king's council left London, he pardoned them £36 6s. 2d., and it was ordained that he would be paid £120 from the king's grandfather's goods, and that he would have a warrant of the privy seal for this. But he has not been able to have a warrant, with the result that he is in great trouble. He asks that he might have a warrant, and also that he might come before the king and council and show them the good evidence he has for this debt.
Nature of endorsement
On 27 October in the second year etc., it was agreed by the council at Gloucester that in case that by the seal of the receipt of the king's Exchequer, or by the accounts of those who were customers when the sum demanded was lent to the king, it can be found that the king's grandfather who died lately was served and answered with the same sum by the said customers, then payment or a suitable assignment will be made to the petitioner for the £120, in full payment of the full sum demanded by him for the reason mentioned here.
