Nature of request
The Prior and brothers of the hospital of St John of Jerusalem in England state that William le Mareschal, Earl of Pembroke, granted to them and their men in the Earl's lordship in South Wales the franchises that they have by the charters of the kings of England, and that these franchises have been usurped by Aymer de Valence, Earl of Pembroke and by Hugh le Despenser the son. They ask that brother Roger de Setayngrave, their Warden of Slebech, and the brothers living with him might enjoy these franchises again, according to the purport of their charters.
