Nature of request
William Evyntyn, forester in fee of the bailiwick of Grovely in the forest of Clarendon, states that certain people, neighbours of this bailiwick, claimed housebote and haybote in the bailiwick, to the disinheritance of the king and his crown, in the eyre of the forest at Salisbury before John Mautravers and his companions, and that he, seeing the danger to the king, counter-pleaded. They then claimed vert and venison against William in the said eyre, and he was indicted, so that his bailiwick is taken into the king's hand, and another keeper put there. He asks the king and council to have consideration for his disinheritance and to ordain a remedy.

Coram rege.The record of the process of this thing is to be brought before the justices appointed to hear the king's pleas, and the reason for the taking of the bailiwick into the king's hand, and the names of those who indicted the said William, [and] by which indictment the bailiwick was taken into the king's hand, and then, when they have heard the said William's complaint, and called before them all those who are to be called, they are to proceed to a final determination of this business, and further to do justice.

CFR 1327-37 p.128 is dated 5 April 1329, and p.206 is dated 16 December 1330. The reference to John Mautravers would seem to date the petition to between these two dates, or shortly afterwards.
